So, it’s summer time and you want to take it easy, but you also want to make sure your kids are still learning something. What do you teach during the summer?
Here are a few ideas to help you determine what to teach during the summer:
Use This Time to Review
Summertime is a great time to review some of the concepts you covered during the school year. Specifically, you can review concepts your child may have had trouble grasping during the year. With no set agenda, you can take your time reintroducing the concept using various activities.
Explore Your Child’s Interests
Is there a subject that your child loves? Find a topic to explore using activities, crafts, or even a fun field trip. My daughter loves airplanes, so last summer we spent a few weeks learning everything we could – complete with a field trip to a small, local airport. She was able to tour the facility and explore three different types of planes!
Introduce Life Skills
Summertime is also a great time to introduce new life skills. Have your children participate in making dinner, doing laundry, washing the car, paying bills, balancing a bank account, etc. Don’t discount the importance of allowing your children to learn helpful skills that will help them grow into self-sufficient adults.
